about

I wrote Noise for a Poetry Slam when I was studying in Bangkok (yes that happened). I had never lived in such a big city and felt very lost in the autumatisms which which its inhabitants would follow their daily routines alongside clashing realities of businesspeople, gigantic advertisements, palm trees, prostitutes, child beggars, sky trains, street food vendors. I found a bit of a home in the poetry slam and one of the first stages to perform my own songs. The day of the event with the theme Noise, I had broken the E-String of my guitar, so I wrote and performed in on the Ukulele. I later rearranged it for guitar but you can still hear the Ukulele in the production. It's inspired by the theme of the poetry slam, but also talks about a friendship I found difficult to maintain because we had different needs. 'Needs' is putting it very broadly, but I think in retrospective, depression and my insecurity about realizing I come from a background of white privilege in a friendgroup of radical activists were big components, to sum it up. I think it's my most authentic (and most self-made) production to date and I hope you can find your own meaning in it.
